NEWPORT RHODE ISLAND SHOPPING
Waterfront Distict - Newport RI
The Newport waterfront is home to two fabulous collections of shops: Bowens and Bannister Wharves. These wharves are decorated seasonal and often feature musical performances of festivals. In the fall, the Seafood Festival at Bowen's Wharf sees the best seafood in New England. The public is invited to buy sample size portions of the very best chowders, clam cakes and New England seafood specialities.
Bannister wharf is famous for being the home of the Black Pearl (Hot Tip: There is nothing better in the summertime than a hot-dog and cup of chowder from the Pearl). The deck of the Pearl in summer is THE place to see and be seen. The boat basin which separates the two wharves is home to popular tour boats. Another Tip: Book a sunset sail on one of the tour boats and bring some nibbles with you. The boats usually offer complimentary wine, beer and/or champagne. After the tour, grab an early dinner at any of the fine restaurants on the wharf and then enjoy the nightlife and dancing at the nightspots in the area.
