FESTIVALS AND EVENTS:
March:
Annual
St. Patricks Day Parade: Sponsored by the Ancient Order
of Hibernians, this annual event features floats, food and fun
for the whole family. Takes place the Saturday closest to St. Patick's
Day and kicks off at City Hall and finishes at St. Augustin's Church
in Newport's Irish neighborhood, the Fifth Ward.
May:
Newport Spring
Boat Show: Every type of marine product is represented.
Express cruisers, multihulls, racing sailboats, as well as kayaks,
canoes and classic wooden boats are all at this festival

NEWPORT SUMMER FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
June:
Chowder
Cook-off .Held the first Saturday in June, this festival
welcome in the summer. Thousands of gallons of the best chowder
are made for the public to sample and vote for their favorites.
Sample clam, seafood and creative chowders from the areas best
restaurants and caterers.
Newport Film Festival: Labled a low-key Cannes, the Newport Film
Festival offers screenings and discussions with today's film makers.
There are daily screens, lectures and events thoughout the festival.
Newport Spring Secret Garden Tour. This event takes place in the
Historic Point Neighborhood of Newport which features extremely
well preserved and restored colonial homes and gardens.
Newport Flower Show: Held at the magnificent Rosecliff Mansion,
it is the perfect to enjoy stunnng floral designs and demonstrations
and lunch on the lawn overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Sunset Music Festival: Held the last week in June, this is a great
music series in a beautiful waterfront location. Evening concerts
are the perfect ending to a warm summer day.
Women's Open Golf Championship: Held at the prestigious Newport
Country Club, this event will feature the best women golfers from
around the world.
July:
Newport Music Festival: It's 37th year, the festival present classical music
concents in the beautiful Newport Manions and around Newport. The absolute
best way to experience a mansion and music.
Campbell's Tennis Hall
of Fame Championships: A week-long event featuring
the top men's players on the ATP tour. An excellent opportunity to experience
the sport and the beautifully restored Newport Casino.
Black Ships Festival: An annual event celebrating the relationship between Japan
and the United States. Highlight is the Taiko Drummers Concert held at on the
grounds of the Tennis Hall of Fame.
August:
Newport Folk Festival: Held the first weekend of August, this music festival
at Fort Adams features performances from various Folk artists. Joan Baez, Arlo
Gutherie and Bob Dylan have performed here.
Newport Jazz Festival: The second weekend of August sees Fort
Adams come alive
again with performances from such jazz greats as Dizzie Gillespie, Miles Davis,
Ray Charles, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, David Sanborn, Sting and
Harry Connick, Jr.
Newport Coaching Weekend. Held every three years, The Gilded Age comes alive
with stunning coaches and riders in full regalia stolling down the Avenue with
demonstrations held at the mansions.
Newport Wooden Boat Show: Features beautiful
wooden boats from yesterday and today at the Newport Yachting
Center.

September:
Newport Irish Festival: Coincides with Labor Day Weekend, features food, dance
and music celebrating the Irish cultural and heritage of Newport, RI

Newport International Boat Show: The largest boat show in New England with boats
and exhibitors from around the world.
Taste of Rhode Island: The Newport waterfont is home to this annual event which
features the best restaurants from around the state offering tasting portions
of the menus.
October:
Harvest Fair: An old-fashioned celebration of fall, including games, hay-rides,
live entertainment, food, crafters, rock wall climbing, children's tent, races,
live animals and antique tractors.
Fiesta Italian: Newport celebrates its Italian heritage and culture over Columbus
Day Weekend with a parade and of course, food events.
OctoberFest: An authentic German Oktoberfest celebration with lively Bavarian
music from throughout New England, German and American food, a biergarten, a
weingarten, and special area for children.
Waterfront Seafood Festival: Bowen's Wharf hosts restaurants and caterers from
the area for a tasting of seafood and autumn favorites including apple pie and
cider. Family activities and live entertainment.
Haunted Newport: Newport is full of ghosts and goblins and spooky tales. Celebrate
the scary side of Newport with this 10-day festival. |
NEWPORT WINTER FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
December:
Christmas
in Newport: Newport comes alive in pure Victorian
splendor with decorations, activties and events to celebrate
the holiday season.
February:
Newport Winter Festival: The largest Winter
extravganza in New England. Held annually during school vacation
week in February. Family oriented festival with over 150 events
and activities for the entire family.
