RECREATION ON THE WATER in Newport, RI
Newport Rhode Island was known for many years, and is
still considered by many, the sailing capital of the world. Home to America's
Cup for over a hundred years, the waters off Narragansett Bay offer some
of the best winds for sailing and great areas for general boating. A must-do
while in Newport is a harbor tour. There are some great sights to be seen
that can only be observed from the water. Hammersmith Farm, the home of
Jacqueline Bouvier, is now a private home, but the grounds are breathtaking
and can only be seen from the water. There are dozens of boats that offer
tours daily. Best kept secret: Most tour boats offer a sunset sail
which includes drinks and snacks. It is a bit more expensive, but Newport
Rhode Island sunsets are breathtaking and it is worth it.
