Newport Rhode Island Bird Watching and Wildlife Areas

Beavertail State Park: Is known for offering some of the most beautiful vistas along the New England coastline. The Park attracts people from all over the country, to enjoy it's pristine environment. Beavertail? most popular activity is sightseeing, and can be done from the comfort of a vehicle, in one of the four overlooks or on foot, from the rocky coastline. Norman Bird Sanctuary: Is 450 acre wildlife refuge offering over 7 miles of hiking trails. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woods or hike to the top of Hanging Rock to a breathtaking view of the ocean and surrounding areas. A wide variety of educational programs are offered for all age groups. Guided walks for schools and community groups are available, but should be scheduled in advance. Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge: Established by donation in 1970, Sachuest Point serves as an important stopover and wintering area for migratory birds. Consisting of approximately 250 acres of diverse upland and wetland habitats, the Refuge also supports a great variety of permanent and summer wildlife species. The trails are open from sunrise to sunset. The building is open year round but hours of operation vary. Call for current information.
