Newport RI roads were built for horses, buggies and wagons and not for automobiles of the 21st century so getting around in the summer time can be difficult. Bicycles and mopeds are a much better option. If you have a bicycle, bring it with you! The Ocean Drive is a beautiful 12 mile ride and the midway point, Brenton's Point State Park is a great spot to take a break, enjoy a lemonade and watch the thousands of kites that flood the sky daily.

What you should know: Using a bicycle to get around will save vast amounts of time in traffic and you will definitely see more. Best kept secret: Middletown and Portsmouth are beautiful areas to bike. The East Bay Bike Path www.riparks.com/eastbay.htm which goes along Narragansett Bay and Bristol Rhode Island, is well maintained and is just a great ride.
