The Lower Thames Street shopping area of Newport is considered to be from the Post Office (intersection of America's Cup Avenue, Memorial Boulevard and Thames Street) south to Morton Avenue where Thames Street ends. Map You'll know this area by the Red Parrot Restaurant. Three floors of fun, food and entertainment. It is the heart of Newport RI.
The west side of the street was at one time the working waterfront of Newport with boat builders and sail lofts and trade servicing the marine industry. Today, while much of that space is now vacation ownership, there are fabulous restaurants and really great shops and boutiques. Think gift giving and early Christmas Shopping. Perhaps the most famous spot on this street is Christie's landing home to Christies. A bar and restaurant that has seen every famous face in the yachting industry. That is at the beginning of Lower Thames, but continue to the end of the street. The further down you go, the more eclectic and unique shops you discover.
